Usernames on WhatsApp are rolling out gradually over the next few months and might not be available to you yet. In the meantime, you can reserve your username. We recommend keeping WhatsApp updated on your device so you can get the latest feature updates.
Usernames are an optional feature that lets you create a unique identifier (for example, @Name123) to keep your phone number private. With a username, your phone number will not be visible when you message or call anyone who doesn’t already have it saved in their contacts. You can give people your username, instead of your phone number, to let them contact you on WhatsApp.
Quick Guide:
1. Check If Usernames Are Available
In WhatsApp Business, go to:
Settings → Account → Username
If the option appears, your account is eligible for a username.
2. Claim Your Business Username
Choose a username that matches your brand, such as:
✅ @YourBusinessName
✅ @YourCompanySupport
Avoid unnecessary numbers and symbols. Usernames are unique, so claim yours as soon as possible.
3. Update Your Marketing
Add your username to:
• Website
• Email signatures
• Social media profiles
• Business cards
• Marketing materials
This makes it easier for customers to find and message you.
4. Review Your CRM and Systems
Customers may no longer share their phone numbers. Instead, WhatsApp can provide a BSUID (Business-Scoped User ID).
Make sure your:
• CRM
• Chatbots
• Automations
• Support systems
can identify customers using BSUIDs rather than phone numbers.
5. Train Your Team
Ensure support and sales teams understand:
• Usernames
• BSUIDs
• Why some customers won’t share phone numbers
6. Promote the Privacy Benefits
Tell customers:
“Message us on WhatsApp without sharing your phone number.”
This can encourage more enquiries and increase trust.
Important Note
If your WhatsApp Business account uses a landline number, you can still use a username, provided the number is already registered and verified with WhatsApp Business.
